Saturday 28 July 2007: This was advertised as another 2Tail up" run, the weather put paid to that and the tail-up part was cancelled. Not a total loss though, two taxi-runs, Spitfire display and an airfield tour on the Queen Mary made for a nice day, no rain either!

Sunday 15 July 2007: Breighton International Fly-In 14th/15th July 2007 Sadly a very wet day on the Sunday in Yorkshire; a real contrast after sweltering at RIAT the day before. Nevertheless, the guys at Brieghton managed to put a few aircraft up in a very small weather window for a bit of flour-bombing. Well done to all concerned! As usual, there was plenty to see, despite the conditions; we just caught the P51's and Harvard departing for home. More from here later in the year no doubt! CDP & NJR

These pictures are from the Saturday, a lot of rain fell and the conditions were bad for photography with some bad light readings neccesitating a 400 ISO with the resultant "noise" on the images. The show was cancelled on the Sunday due to further rain and muddy conditions

Sunday 20 May 2007: Duxfords traditional season opener. This years theme was the Falklands 25th Anniversary and as such helicopters tended to dominate. Other types were represented of course, the finale in Flying Legends style comprised of a helicopter "Balbo" which was impressive.

Sunday 10 June 2007: A great day at RAF Cosford, the new Cold War building was open and proved to be an informative display hall, I do struggle sometimes with the clkose grouping of airframes and the tendancy to suspend them from the ceilings. The weather started off very misty and looked like it would decline to lift at all. A very diverse mix of aircraft displayed, initially "flat" displays which gave way to the full ones as the weather improved. NJR

East Kirkby - 'Just Jane' Fast Taxi & Tail-Up Run, September 2006

Saturday 16 September 2006: Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby Visit date: 16/09/06 A very special day as Lancaster NX611 'Just Jane' lifted her tail in public for the first time. The weather wasn't as good as expected but that didn't prevent the planned run. In fact, we were all treated to quite a full afternoon, as there was the 'normal' run at lunchtime. This was followed in the afternoon by two fast, tail-up runs along the new grass airstrip. There was plenty of time to see her running and soak up the noise and atmosphere. Congratulations to all involved for an interesting day of nostalgia. Plenty of good memories of this super heritage centre, which year after year sees the number of exhibits, artefacts and displays being added to. The food is good as well! CDP 2006

Tuesday 22 August 2006: RAF Waddington Visit date: 22/08/06 A quick visit by the pair of us to Waddington for an afternoon was rewarded with a superb beef burger from the cafe in the viewing area and plenty of activity in the form of Tucanos, Beech King Air's and a Boeing E3D Sentry, all doing circuits and bumps. The Sentry stayed around for quite a while, in and out. We lost count after nine about circuits - really! Quite a full afternoon of the RAF practicing! This is a collaborative collection by both of us and should really be just entitled the ZH101 collection! CDP & NJR (I really shouldn't have sharpened so many of my efforts though! CP)

Yorkshire Airshow 2006 - Elvington

Saturday 19 August 2006: Some photos from the Yorkshire airshow held on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th August 2006. Despite limited RAF involvement this year it was still a fantastic show, Elvington is one of those places which always tries to include something different, this year it was Christian Moullec and his formation Geese! Very impressive. The weather could have been kinder with a few heavy, but short lived, showers, this did not stop the show and all the aircraft displayed. Elvington has a museum based on the old technical site, this is well worth a visit in it's own right. Entry to the museum was included in the airshow ticket price, numerous exhibits here, star being, in my view, Halifax "Friday the 13th"

Aeroventure, Doncaster, 2006

Saturday 12 August 2006: Aeroventure, Doncaster, South Yorkshire Visit date: 12/08/06 Aeroventure, near the Doncaster Dome in South Yorkshire is a particularly interesting place. Situated on the site of the former RAF Doncaster airfield, it utilises many of the surviving WW2 buildings, including the main display hangar (a Bellman type). Many of the original workshops are still used for the same purpose today, as well as storage for airframe parts and artefacts. As well as full airframes, the museum boasts a number of Canberra nose sections of various marks. Like wise, JP noses and Vulcan B2 XL388 nose. As with many of these items, they are either undergoing or awaiting restoration. Judging by the finished items (and I'm no restoration expert by any means), the rest will be worth waiting for. As the home of the South Yorkshire Aviation Museum (formerly at RAF Firbeck, not too far away near Maltby), the site is shared with the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group, who have many restoration projects underway in their own right, including recently acquired (as of 2006) Westland Dragonfly HR3, VN499. This is a museum well worth a visit, as it is a very active place and good value for money. Visitors are assured a warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome. There's probably a good bacon buttie shop nearby but we haven't found that yet though! CDP 2006

Generally a good display but lacking the heavy metal of some foreign air forces, which was a bit of a shame. These are a few shots taken around the static park.

Hucknall Air Day (2)

Saturday 17 June 2006: Hucknall Airfield & Rolls Royce, Nottinghamshire Visit date: 17/06/06 Our first visit to this Nottinghamshire site so we didn't quite know what to expect. We were not to be dissapointed, with many of the engine manufacturing facilities open for display, a collection of military vehicles and on the cricket pitch behind the facility, a classic car and motorcycle show. Unfortunately, there was too much to do on the airfield, which meant we only had a few minutes at the end of the day to view the latter. A terrific day weather-wise which was ideal for the two and a half hours or so worth of flying. Some of the types we hadn't seen before, notably a very entertaining slot by the Great War Display Team, recreating aerial action over the trenches of 1914/18; a busy routine. The three warbirds (Mustang 414419 "Janie", Hurricane Mk.1a R4118 and Rolls Royces Hucknall-based Spitfire PR.XIX PS853) gave mint displays. Perhaps one of the most noteworthy was that of Jet Provost T.4 G-BWGT, which gave perhaps one of the most unusual displays we've ever seen for this type. Breighton - Real Aeroplane Company Piper Fly-In & At Home Day

Sunday 7 May 2006: Real Aeroplane Company's Piper Fly-In & At Home Day Visit date: 07/05/06 Weather: VERY wet A stinking day weather-wise, which kept the visitor numbers way down _ I felt sorry for the poor bod on the gate - he was there all day! Initially, we though 'Ah, nothing doing' so we kept ourselves amused with bacon sarnies, tea and the comforts of the club house and their rather interesting displays. Naturally, the hangars were a bit of a draw and a proper little treasure trove they are! Needless to say, the warbirds were not airborne but a couple of the pilots decided in the small weather windows available, to entertain the die-hards who had ventured out. It was worth the wait. Back there again as soon as some decent weather can be organised, me thinks.

East Kirkby 2005 Finale

Saturday 19 November 2005: Photos of the last event for 2005 at East Kirkby. The afternoon began with a fantastic display by Paul Day in Trevor Bayliss's two seat Spitfire. The first of the two Lancaster taxi runs then took place. The next run would be a night run so a few hours was available to do other things, we opted for an airfield tour aboard the Queen Mary. Eventually it was time for the night run, and a splendid site it was too. The cold and the frost that was coating Just Jane all adding to the effect, we were almost transported back to 1944! The event was finished off by a fantastic firework display.
